Our Favourite Jackets For Summer

The summer season is no time to cover up. If ever there’s a moment to flaunt flesh, this is it - so who wants to think about jackets?

Erm, actually - us!

You see the trouble is, this is Blighty and - summer or not - chilly days and rainy days are never off the cards. And if you’re going to nail summer styling, you’re going to need a jacket.

Here are some of our faves…

 

Where would we be without the beloved denim jacket? Fab for throwing on all year round, but definitely a summer staple.

The denim jacket can be worn by anyone and everyone. Why? Because there’s nothing denim doesn’t work with. Bold prints, floaty skirts, body-con dresses, trousers – and yep, even jeans (we’re all about the double denim).

Light blue, indigo or fashionably faded, a traditional shade works perfectly for the warmer weather but it’s not your only choice. You’ll find denim jackets available in just about every colour – pink, cream, black, you get the idea - so you can find the ideal shade to complement your wardrobe.

 

A lightweight bomber is a great summer jacket go-to. Short and boxy, they’re fab as a casual throw-on and can add a touch of sass to any summer outfit.

We particularly like them styled with skirts and floaty dresses. Just make sure you don’t buy one that’s too padded or you may start to melt.

Cute styled over shorts and a vest top, with the sleeves pushed back and teamed with a maxi, or thrown over your shoulders with jeans. A blazer gives any outfit a more polished feel, making it a great summer jacket for heading into the office.

 

Don’t panic – we’re not talking pac-a-macs and cagoules (although the geeky chic look is definitely a thing!). Thanks to festival fever there are loads of raincoats on the racks - and the good news is, they’re anything but boring.

Our advice? Opt for a longer length - if the aim is to stay dry you might as well maximise it. A rain jacket that falls to at least your knees will help to protect you - and your outfit! Even better, look for one with a hood. Why add a bad hair day into the rainy-day mix?

 

Soft, floaty and oh so elegant. There’s something special about a kimono and we think they make a perfect summer throw-over.

Short or long-line, fringe detailing, plain, patterned or traditionally oriental – anything goes. Lightweight and relaxed, they can dress up denim, add edge to a glammed-up look or even be thrown over swimwear when you head to the beach.

With fashion this flexible, everyone needs a Kimono in their wardrobe. 

 

Rules are meant to be broken, and by that, we mean a summer jacket doesn’t have to be a jacket.

We’re talking about oversized shirts, cardies, and lightweight knits that you can use to layer up and keep summertime chills at bay.

The great thing about any of these choices is that they easily tie around your waist or scrunch up small and stash in your bag if the sun comes out to play.
