Staycation Wardrobe Essentials

Sticking to the UK this summer?

Ok, so you might not be packing a case with sun cream, bikinis and sundresses, but a staycation wardrobe still needs thinking about - and it can definitely still be fun!

Heading out for day trips, living it up in the city, or planning a retreat to the countryside - staying local doesn’t need to mean a snoozefest in the style stakes…anything but!

Unsure where to start with your staycation wardrobe? Wherever you’re off to, the team at She Selected can help you arrive in style…

The seaside

A UK beach trip might be more fish and chips than cocktails, but you can still feel the sand between your toes and enjoy the sea air.

But to avoid finding pesky sand in your shoes for the rest of forever, we’d suggest styling beachwear with flip-flops or sandals. Don a cute strappy dress and, whether you’re strolling the dunes or checking out the prom, you’ll look the part.

Don’t forget, on a good day, a UK beach can compete with the shores of sunnier climes, so be sure to pack swimwear if the weather’s looking kind. Just remember that water temps are usually a tad ‘fresh’. So if you’re brave enough to go further than toe deep, think more tankini than bikini...brrr!

Country bumpkin

Got visions of enjoying long walks and visiting romantic country pubs with your bea? Then you need staycation fashion pieces that are practical yet still deliver in the style stakes.

Leggings and loungewear are perfect for this. Pick and choose separates or go for a fully co- ord look, both work. And if temperatures are hotting up, switch out your full-length bottoms for shorts and get those legs out.

Rain can be unpredictable – and plentiful (groan) - in the countryside, so you need to make sure you cover all basis and be sure to pack a raincoat.

City slicker

Whether you want to check out all the sights, shop ‘til you drop or work your way through the cocktails list of the hottest nightspots, a city break demands style – and comfort! I mean no one wants blisters, right?

To work city-style, think fun flirty dresses, playsuits, or lightweight trousers and tees, all teamed with flats that will allow you to play tourist like a pro during the day.

For evenings, be sure to pack a few more ‘dressy’ dresses so you can turn up the tempo. Or if that sounds like too much effort for your hols, simply switch your flats for heels, reapply your lippy and you’re good to go. Just maybe sling a blazer over your shoulders for cooler evenings.

Day tripper

The bonus of day trips is that you have your full wardrobe on hand to work with, so you don’t need to overthink what you’re wearing too far in advance. Be ruled by your activity and what the day looks set to bring in terms of weather.

That said, a day trip usually means a long day, so remember that comfort is key. Layer up if you’re not sure how warm it’s going to get. You could throw a lightweight cardigan over a cute summery jumpsuit, this can then be wrapped around your waist or will scrunch down small enough to fit into your bag if the day heats up.

On the subject of bags…backpacks seal the deal for any savvy day tripper. Don’t stress, we’re not talking a trainspotter-esque rucksack! There are tons of stylish backpacks, in all colours and sizes, that not only look great but are sensible - without the snores!

Opting for a backpack means you can carry more (we’re thinking emergency brolly and snacks!), whilst keeping your hands free for taking all those selfie snaps.
